“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.”
G.K. Chesterton
The Catechism in a Year will include the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each episode will cover a section of the Catechism, highlighting key ideas, explaining the context, and showing how to live out the teachings of the Catholic Faith in daily life.
Each of the daily episodes will be about 15-20 minutes long, making it easy to listen on your own, with your family, a friend, or with a small group.
Published in 1992 under the direction of St. John Paul II, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a beautiful summary of what we believe as Catholics and why. It distills the essentials of Church teaching (over 2,000 years of Sacred Tradition and living Sacred Scripture). Check out this quick into to the catechism by Fr. Mike Schmitz.
The edition of the Catechism with the blue cover published by the USCCB is the most up to date version. You can find it online, in our STM Gift Shop or from your favorite bookstore.
There is also an edition from Ascension, which has the most up to date text as well as a guide from Ascension to help make the Catechism easy to learn and a joy to remember.
Other earlier editions have an older version of the text and do not have key support materials such as the Glossary and Index of Citations. They have not been updated with the new translation of the Mass and the revisions to CCC 2267.
They can be used with the podcast but we recommend the most recent editions for the best experience, as those support materials are referenced in the podcast.
The editions below contain substantially different text and are not suitabl for folloing along with the podcast:
If you miss a few days or didn't get started January 1st, no problem. You can start listening at any time and at any place in the reading plan.
Feel free to pick up listening with the latest episode, where you left off, or with whatever topic you are interested in.
Podcast sessions will be available for you to come back to another time.
Nope. You'll get a lot out of the conversation and Q&A even if you didn't get to catch all the podcast episodes (or any of them).
