Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable, houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 100,000+ houses in more than 80 countries, including some 30,000 houses across the United States. Groups work to improve housing for the needs of the greater community. Activities are seasonal and training is provided.
2023 CATHOLIC BUILD
Austin Habitat for Humanity and Catholic churches and individuals in the Austin area have been coming together for over twenty years (25 to be exact!) to build a home for a deserving family in our community. This year will be no exception as H4H heads to East Austin to build a home. Through faith in action, by our volunteers and our donors, Habitat Austin and local Catholics are working together to eliminate substandard housing- one family at a time.
Meet the family:
Floriberto and Edna are new parents to Leonardo (1) and are committed to providing their son the best future possible. Floriberto and Edna have both lived in Austin most of their lives and think it is the perfect place to raise their son and begin their family. They have a strong support system of family and friends in town but worry they will soon not be able to afford to live in Austin. Skyrocketing rent prices in their apartment forced them to move in with Floriberto’s mother in an attempt to save money. Now they are living with eight family members in one house while raising a toddler. Living together in one room, they constantly worry about the disruption their young child might cause to their family members and have little privacy for themselves. While they love their family and appreciate the support his mother has given them, they are overcrowded and desperately want a space of their own for their son and family to grow
