The name was inspired by The Fourteen Holy Helpers. They are a “group of saints venerated together in Roman Catholicism because their intercession is believed to be particularly effective, especially against various diseases. This group of Nothelfer ("helpers in need") originated in the 14th century at first in the Rhineland, largely as a result of the epidemic (probably of bubonic plague) that became known as the Black Death.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteen_Holy_Helpers
These 14 saints (Sts. George, Blaise, Giles, Denis, Eustace, Erasmus, Cyriacus, Christopher, Vitus, Pantaleon, Acatius, Barbara, Catherine of Alexandria, Margaret) will be the patrons for our work. https://catholicism.org/the-fourteen-holy-helpers.html
We recognize that, especially at this time, we are all “in need” and we also have the opportunity to be helpers for those in need in whatever way we can. So we are helpers, and we are in need. We can be Jesus TO others and FOR others.
Goal of the Mission
To connect isolated individuals and help get their needs met – spiritual, relational, and practical. To utilize this opportunity in time to LIVE our call that Jesus has given us to carry out the works of mercy. To help parishioners feel that their Church/the Body of Christ is here for them, and therefore God is there for them. This includes ALL people, as really everyone is needing connection now. But some people have more dire needs than others. We are dividing volunteers into two categories:
Spiritual Focus: The Loaves and Fishes -- the call of the disciples by Jesus not to send people home to fend for themselves, but to “feed them yourselves”
